Stoop Chat with Jimmy and Shanaya
“Harmonica Jimmy” and his friend Shanaya forge a friendship and build community as they discover a shared love of poetry, music and street games in this free, 13-minute film directed by Marj Kleinman and Gabriella Canal.
This pilot is the first in a series of intergenerational “Stoop Chats” that celebrate stoop culture and preserve neighborhood stories across generations.
This short doc (13 min) recently won best documentary at Urban Dreams Mental Health Film Festival and has been accepted to four other festivals, including Project UnLonely Films, We Are Home Film Festival, Queens World Film Festival and Life Screenings Film Festival.
This film is made possible by public funds from the Greater New York Arts Development Fund of the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs (@nyculture), the Statewide Community Regrants Program, as well as from a regrant program of the New York State Council on the Arts (@nyscouncilonthearts) with the support of the New York State Legislature, both administered by Brooklyn Arts Council (@bkartscouncil).
